Begin your adventure by landing at Vágar Airport in the stunning Faroe Islands, where you can conveniently pick up your rental car.
Before reaching your accommodation, take the opportunity to visit the charming villages of Bøur and Gásadalur, the last village linked to the rest of the islands by tunnel. Enjoy the serene atmosphere and stunning views of Tindhólm. Afterwards, check in to your hotel in Vágar for a relaxing night after all your traveling.
Today, you are free to enjoy a day at your leisure in Vágar, exploring the local scenery. However, you may want to consider a day trip to the bird island of Mykines.*
The Mykines day trip is highly popular and must be booked in advance. The tour begins with a spectacular sail past majestic sea cliffs, where you can spot puffins, the delightful little birds with colorful beaks, as well as the impressive gannet, which breeds exclusively on the remote isle west of the main island.
Prepare for an exciting day as you check out from your hotel after breakfast. From Tórshavn, board the ferry ‘Smyril’ and set sail for the beautiful island of Suðuroy. This island is known for its fantastic walking and hiking paths, including the summit of Rávan and the award-winning Hvannhagi trail.
Once you arrive, stop by the local tourist office in the village of Tvøroyri for more information on hiking options. The stunning hike to Hvannhagi comes highly recommended, along with the short yet captivating walk along Á Røðina, where you can take in the dramatic scenery of the island’s western coast.
While in Tvøroyri, don’t miss the opportunity to explore the historic buildings once used by the Danish Royal Company Store, and take a moment to relax with a coffee in one of the cozy cafes before retiring for the night in Suðuroy.
This morning, enjoy a leisurely start as your local driver/guide arrives to pick you up from your accommodation. Sit back and relax as throughout the day, you’ll be taken on a fascinating tour of the unique island, rich in history and featuring unforgettable viewpoints.
The specific locations included in your sightseeing tour will be adapted based on wind and weather conditions, ensuring you have the best possible experience. Along the way, you’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy lunch while taking in the stunning surroundings. After a day filled with discovery and breathtaking sights, you’ll return to Suðuroy to unwind and reflect on your adventures.
This morning, board the ferry for a scenic journey back to Tórshavn. Upon arrival, dive into the enchanting old town of Reyn and Tinganes, where a charming maze of narrow lanes, steps, and rock formations await. Spend the afternoon passing by quaint, black-tarred houses with white-framed windows and grass-covered roofs, home to the locals. This captivating area is a treasure unlike any other in the world.
As you travel through Tórshavn, vibrant cafés and inviting restaurants beckon, serving up unforgettable meals. After indulging in local flavors, unwind and head back to your accommodations for a well-earned rest.
Today, take a ferry from Tórshavn to the nearby island of Nólsoy. In this charming village, you’ll experience the warmth of authentic Faroese culture and the laid-back, cozy atmosphere that makes Nólsoy so special. For a deeper dive, guided tours of Nólsoy are also available.
On your own, you may want to hike to the island’s summit for breathtaking panoramic views of Tórshavn and the surrounding islands. Afterwards, return by ferry to Tórshavn, where an afternoon visit to the historic village of Kirkjubøur—cultural heart of the Faroes—comes highly recommended.
From the village of Vestmanna, embark on a thrilling boat trip to the stunning Vestmanna Cliffs. Sail through narrow straits, explore hidden grottos, and get up close to towering vertical cliffs that define the dramatic landscape.
After the boat tour, head toward Klaksvík, passing through the sub-sea tunnel from Leirvík, beautifully illuminated by Faroese artist Tróndur Patursson’s light displays.
Later, in Klaksvík, join local farmers for a guided tour, where you’ll gain insight into their farming practices and savor fresh, locally sourced delicacies. End your day with an overnight stay in the peaceful Northern Islands.
Make the most of your hotel’s location by exploring the varied landscapes of the Northern Islands. From Klaksvík, on the island of Borðoy, you could take a ferry to Kalsoy and visit the village of Mikladalur to see the famous Seal Woman statue.
Alternatively, by car, you can head to the island of Kunoy. The tiny village of Kunoy offers a stunning view of Kalsoy, and just above the village, you’ll find a charming little park.
If you’re interested in the more remote areas, the village of Hvannasund provides ferry access to the outer islands of Svínoy and Fugloy. In Fugloy, the two villages, Kirkja and Hattarvík, are connected by a scenic hike (note: cars aren’t permitted).
For another option, drive to the island of Viðoy, home to the northernmost settlement, Viðareiði. The picturesque drive to this village is well worth the visit.
As you walk along the edge of the crevice, keep an eye out for puffins emerging from their nests, ready to head out to sea in search of food for their chicks. At the end of the crevice, facing the open ocean, you’ll find Crown Princess Mary’s Bench, offering a perfect spot to take in the landscapes.
From Gjógv, you can also hike up the mountainside to see dramatic bird cliffs and take in even more breathtaking scenery. If time permits, consider visiting the picturesque villages of Saksun and Tjørnuvík before continuing on to your next accommodation.
Make the most of your final full day on the Faroe Islands by visiting some nearby villages. Start with Oyndarfjørður, home to the Rocking Stones—legend has it that these two enchanted pirate ships gently rock in the bay.
Next, head to Runavík and explore the charming Vicarage in the village of Nes. In the village of Toftir, don’t miss the Navia yarn store, known for its wide selection of traditional Faroese sweaters, yarn, wool, and more.
Finally, end your day in Eysturoy, soaking in the captivating charm of the Faroe Islands one last time.
Savor your last breakfast before checking out. If time allows, take a detour north of the village of Eiði to witness the impressive rock formations known as the Giant and the Witch. According to legend, this couple was transformed into stone while trying to transport the islands to Iceland.
As you make your way to the airport, you’ll pass by Slættartindur, the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, standing at 882 meters. Upon arrival at the airport, return your rental car before saying goodbye to the Faroe Islands.
