For the travelers who venture here, the reward is an untouched paradise where nature reigns in its purest form. With each step, you’ll find yourself awestruck by dramatic landscapes, towering cliffs, and misty fjords that seem almost otherworldly. Whether you’re planning a brief escape or extending a longer journey, this 4-day adventure offers a chance to unravel the mysteries of this remote archipelago, capturing the essence of a place where every corner tells a story!
Start the journey arriving at Vágar Airport in the Faroe Islands, where you will pick up your rental car upon landing.
Before leaving Vágar Island, consider a visit to the small village of Gásadalur. Here, you can walk along the marked nature trail and take in breathtaking views of Tindhólmur, as well as admire the stunning waterfall.
Next, depart Vágar via the sub-sea tunnel to Streymoy. From there, drive along the scenic coastline, passing through colorful villages, and cross the bridge to the island of Eysturoy, where you will spend the night.
After breakfast, set off towards the charming village of Eiði, enjoying a scenic drive along the panoramic route to Gjógv. Along the way, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the dramatic rock formations known as the Giant and the Witch, and catch a glimpse of Slættaratindur, the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, towering at an impressive 882 meters.
Once you arrive in Gjógv, take your time to explore this picturesque village, famous for its natural harbour. It’s a must-see gem of the Faroe Islands! Wander through the incredible landscape, and make sure to stop at Crown Princess Mary’s bench, where you can relax and soak in the breathtaking views of the surrounding islands.
In the afternoon, enjoy a cozy visit to a local home, where you can sip coffee and chat with your host, getting a glimpse into Faroese life. After a full day of adventure and culture, settle in for another peaceful night on Eysturoy.
After enjoying a hearty breakfast, check out from your accommodation and head to the vibrant capital, Tórshavn. Once you’ve checked in, take the time to wander through the charming old part of the city, including the areas of Reyn and Tinganes.
As you explore, you’ll find yourself navigating a maze of narrow lanes, cobbled steps, and rock-lined passages, all surrounded by tiny, black-tarred houses—this is a town that feels like it’s frozen in time, dating back to the Middle Ages. It’s a truly unique spot, not only in the Faroe Islands but in the entire world.
Next, head to the historic village of Kirkjubøur, the cultural and historical center of the Faroe Islands. The picturesque old farm here has been run by the same family for 17 generations and is home to both a traditional farmstead and an ecclesiastical site. Don’t miss the unfinished Magnus Cathedral and the tiny medieval church of St. Olav, both of which hold centuries of history within their walls.
In the evening, you’ll have free time to relax and enjoy the local cuisine. Tórshavn has a variety of cozy restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy excellent Faroese food before returning to your accommodation to unwind after a full day of exploration.
Start your day with one last breakfast, then head to Vágar Airport to return your rental car. As you prepare to say goodbye to the Faroe Islands, reflect on the unforgettable experiences from your quick but memorable visit.
Includes 2 nights of hotel accommodation on Eysturoy with breakfast, plus 1 night in Tórshavn with breakfast.
